Habitat for Humanity helps families achieve the dream of a safe, well-maintained and affordable place to call home. And in Kansas City’s Wendell Phillips neighborhood, Spire was a part of making that dream come true for five families.  Over the course of several days, Spire volunteers helped with the construction of these homes as part of Spire’s Day for Good volunteer program. 

Volunteers used their skills to install flooring, paint interior walls and create a stone façade on homes. 

“At Spire, we appreciate how Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City helps families achieve more – because home ownership sets them on a path to long-term financial stability. As volunteers, we get a great deal of satisfaction knowing we’re not just building a house, we’re helping a family build their future,” said Arthur Cheatham, vice president and general manager of Spire Missouri West. 

The homes will be purchased by families who complete the Habitat for Humanity's Home Ownership Program, which helps prepare families to manage the financial aspects of owning a home, as well as educates future homeowners about the basics of home repair and maintenance. Families must also contribute 350 hours of “sweat equity” by helping to build their home, taking classes and volunteering on other Habitat for Humanity projects.
