Breaking ground and building dreams

Imagine a community where everything you need, like childcare, safe housing and healthy, productive activities, can be found in one place. That’s what the Bessemer Housing Authority’s Dream Center aims to accomplish.

Public officials and community members gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony in June 2024 to celebrate the new Dream Center, which will reimagine what public housing can be.

The center, which will include an arts and crafts room, basketball court and a natural gas kitchen made possible through support from Spire, will provide a safe, fun location for local residents to gather.

“The Bessemer Housing Authority’s goal is to provide affordable, reliable and safe services to the community, and that’s exactly the energy Spire brings with natural gas. We’re thrilled to support the new Dream Center with natural gas so residents can enjoy homecooked meals, and more importantly, the connection and community that food can provide,” said Kelvin Johnson, Spire’s economic development manager.
